  • RIP brassicas

Just thought I'd let you all know that finally, I've managed to spend an hour and a half in my back veg garden after all the rain/wind/more rain/even more rain. Pleased about that BUT after careful consideration of the number of caterpillars and holes in my remaining broccoli, cabbage and brussels, have pulled them all up and put them either in the compost/my brown wheelie bin/my neighbour on the left's wheelie bin/my neighbour on the right's wheelie bin. Bit sad really, but lesson learned for next year - so watch out caterpillars! Going for a lie down now............ dexterdog

thanks for that boys and girls! Actually YB I lived in Scunthorpe/Barnsley/Wakefield when we were married, then moved back to Lancashire after 10 years! We once had a really weird time, one christmas when we set off from Yorkshire to get to the bit of the M62 where the farm is in the middle - the snow was that bad, we couldnt see where we were going - so decided, reluctantly to turn back - nearly ended up in the moors........to find out that if we'd carried on overt'hill we'd have been OK! the weather is responsible for lots of things ! how are your crops doing in the weather? dexterdog

actually havnt got that much in at mo, only started living in a house again a year ago, (worked at sea and lived in tent and car for 10 years.) and only got lottie beggining of summer, we are still re building the house so my free time is split between working on house and trying to work on lottie, and do the garden. weeds are coming on a treat tho, despite my best efforts, got shallots onions garlic boccoli cabbage toms and spuds left in, just landed a new job so that will give me more time, hopefully next year will be much better. the ducks are loving the rain tho.

I know the bit of the m62, we went the old road way last x-mas it was just like that but the other way round, i have a suberu so didnt turn back, climbs trees my car.
my dad helped build the bit that goes through the rocks and reletives on both sides swear the weather changed after they built it.

Doing good here. have a late crop of peas in at the mo. Pods forming nicely. Digging the last of the spuds gradually as we need them. toms starting to come in too fast at the mo after waiting an age for them to start ripening. Making winter tom and potato soup and salsa with the glut of them and making plum jam with the crop from my one bush. Chillis, after looking at them for weeks sitting there all green they are now turning red all of a sudden.
                All in all, can't complain.
