Hi. I want to grow beans, I thought provisionally sugar beans, but I would like to sprout on a plate or in a jar first them first in order to show my 5 year old son the root and leaves as they appear. Any recommendations as to the setup Would be greatly appreciated.

I used to sprout my seeds on damp kitchen paper in one of those foil containers that take aways use. Pop them in a poly bag and put them in the airing cupboard.
That way I could keep them all separate with less likelyhood of damaging them when I potted them up.I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

What's a sugar bean?
(I just googled ... it's a butter bean)
Just soak it overnight in cold water, and then leave it on damp kitchen paper until it sprouts. You can then plant it into a clear drinks cup if you want to see the roots n all.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
