Council subsidised stuff (compost bins etc)

Hello all,

After contemplating another compost bin for the allotment i decided to have a look for something local. Much to my suprise i found that my council was offering dalek bins from £12. This is an alternative to another pallette bin, the problem being that the palletes don't fit in my car!

anyway i thought it worth posting a link to my council's subsidised stuff and the site which should list YOUR councils stuff too. I hope it helps

The prices are now not as good as they were a couple of years ago when we bought our bins. Why?

smallblue it's probably something to do with building more mini roundabouts OR the dreaded CC.....or because they're tight!

Stupid thing keeps telling me I'm under Bradford Met Council, just coz my post-code starts BD... We're North Yorkshire CC here! It won't let me change it though.

Anyway, for Bradford, they're £17


sussed it - put in NYCC's post code. They're £17 for us now too. Although I'm pretty sure I got our other 2 daleks off them, including a base, for about £8 each. So yeah, they've definitely gone up. We used to be able to get cheap water butts too from Blackwall, but they've vanished altogether!

We must be lucky in Portsmouth, a while ago, perhaps 2007, all households were offered free dalek compost bins, we picked what size and it was delivered to our homes. We have been given 2 by neighbours who were worried about attracting rats in the gardens so we have 3 on th plot. A few years before that another neighbour gave us her green newspaper recycle bin as she said she would rather go to prison than be forced to recycle!

i brought one last year from my local council and the price was £8, i also brought 2 of the kitchen caddies and they were £2 each.
When i went to the checkout to pay i had a £1 off token so it only cost me £11 for the 3things.

I looked yesterday has i was wanting another compost bin and ours have now gone upto £17 which i think is rather a big increase!!!

so i have posted a wanted ad on my local freecycle today for one

My dad is in the same area as Duronal so I am getting him to order one for me. The offer we had here has run out I think. Just got to convince Mr H I need a third compost bin and work out where to put it

Caerphilly CBC do compost bins for £10.

Swansea CC give you as much compost as you collect from their recycle centres !! They take the line that it's your green waste we compost so you can have it back it you want it I'll be takign my trailer next time I'm down that way

Ours were £6 each from Coventry council. The kitchen caddy was £9

When I got my Daleks they were £4 each through the council. Now they are £20

Before you go to buy from the council why not try your local Freecycle group. I have got several of them for my self and for others on our lotty and all for free!

OURS WERE FREE in the summer from sutton council choice of 2 sizes .
can anyone tell me if they are any good some one told me they are not very good for the job!
any tips thanks xx
