cucumbers, marrows and courgettes

are they all the same family?

for some reason moon planting treats cukes as leafy, the exception to the rule.does that mean courgettes are too?
and do all courgettes turn into marrows? cos i seem to have seeds for both.

They're all fruit as far as I'm concerned. Courgettes are supposed to be immature marrows.

They are the Same Family...Curcubits,,,,Includes melons, pumkins and other squashes too.

Yes, all courgettes turn into marrows, but there are specific varieties bred for both.

Marrows....'Badger' etc.....tend to be stripy by tradition. Whatever the moon chart says none of them want planting before April....so time to find out eh!

the synodic system, doesn't say they are leafy, just says they should be sown at the same time as leafy, they are a rule exception *shrug* which is why i wondered if marrows and courgettes are the same family.

Telegraph imp. an indoor cuke...depends if you can afford to heat the greenhouse!...March at the earliest

Courgettes....Trouble is they get too big, hungry for the pots quite quickly and definately want it to be frost free before setting out....rather than sow loads early I sow 2 a month for three months...that way when first one gets mildew the next one comes in...and nobody needs 6 plants at once!...even your friends will be sick of courgettes.

well i dont have a heated greenhouse (although my heated lounge with patio doors is pretty efficient), but i am down south so that might help, so best delay that till march then at the earliest.

courgettes and marrows will be fun, i have NO room, but eat tons of them, so staggered sowing would seem to be the way to go.

moon planting the way i do it, doesn't tell you what to plant, just when, so if courgettes are 'fruit' (seeds inside), i just need to find the 7 day window in the right month to plant them, and pray there is a 'new moon' which is best quarter for cukes ( leafy) on the 25th of feb, so that looks fave for sticking some cukes in a propogator, and courgettes if i can figure out if they are exceptions like cukes, or fruits ? (week after)
