Can anyone recommend a good advice book on which seed varieties to plant and when?? What I'd like to do is try and grow more of each type of veg so would obviously need to plant the right variety at the right time to ensure a longer cropping season. Hope this makes sense to you???

If you want different varieties of each veg (am I right?) presumably you want to spread your harvest? eg. early & maincrop carrots, early & late broccoli, etc etc.
You can use Google for each variety, however T&M don't come up in searches, so it's worth looking at their website first.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you right, so I hope that's helpfulAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I'm sure the Vegetable Expert by Hessayon had a range of varieties, but my copy got dropped in a bucket of water a couple of years ago I don't know whether there is a more up to date edition, but I loved it. You probably won't get the most recent varieties included though.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I should have staggered the sowings of my cabbage last year as I sowed an F1 variety which all matured on the same day!
My short term solution was to cut a cross in the stem of each cabbage as I harvested it. This has meant I am STILL harvesting up to four NEW cabbage that have grown from the cut stem.
I enjoyed the taste of the Caramba F1 cabbage so I will be making TWO sowings this year but still cutting crosses in the stems to prolong the harvest even further! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
