Asparagus and parsley companion planting

I am just planning my veggie plot for the first time and seem to have quite a few questions, my first one being: I have just read that asparagus and parsley are good companions, having got the asparagus bed prepared i am wary to try this without having advice from others, you can only read so many books and mags before getting a little confused has anyone tried this and how did you go about it, any suggestions gratefully received?

Yes you can grow parsley in, or more likely as an edging to, an established asparagus bed....however I like to salt the beds and the ferns are 6 ft plus. I don't know about in a new bed, I'd just concentrate on establishing the asparagus in year one....maybe catch crop a few lettuce in year two.

If your just talking about a couple of crowns in the corner of a bed; parsley would be ok next door.

What is the advantage of salting the asparagus bed (other than the pleasure of knowing slugs and snails will hate it)?

Indeed apart from the slugs and weeds hating it, the asparagus love it. They originate from the salt marshes of Tunis. It is an old commercial growers trick; apply about an ounce to a sq yd. in an established bed...seaweed mulches are good as well.
