I have spent this afternoon digging an area to sow my broad beans tomorrow (although the weather now looks shocking...) It was an area I hadn't used before and I followed the advice on here and had covered it with manure and cardboard. The cardboard looked much the same as it has done since I put it down in the autumn. I stuck my fork into it (swearing and moaning about this wretched cardboard and what was I going to do with it now) when the whole lot just disintergrated with the most magnificent crumbly soil beneath.
I was a sceptic and I apologise.
