I've never had any success with spring onions...so I'm definately trying this method, Thanks for the tip it looks like a great idea.

Right, mine are sown, thanks for the reminder Piglet. I've hidden them behind the curtain in the bedroom (I don't bother drawing them in winter, so Mr Sheds won't even know they're there).

indigestion caused by spring onions
i love spring onions but i get very bad indigestion from them i have tried several varieties with no success so this year i am going to grow shallots from seed and use them as spring onions.has anybody else got the same problem with spring onionsone years weed is seven years seed

Just planted my spring onions. I didn't have an spare cell modules here (all at the allotment which is snowed in, tut) so i used two half seeds trays and planted 12 'piles' of seeds to recreate cells. Hope the roots from each cell don't get too entwined.
I'm planing on growing the spring onions in with my carrots and I read somewhere this helps with carrot fly. The onion smell confuses or distracts the fly. Is this right?BW

there is a distinct lack of modules in my house!!! so i cut 20 loo rolls in half
20 for white lisbons
20 for red beards

You get stronger plants if left in an unheated greenhouse, in the long run BUT they take aeons to germinate.
I'm letting mine germinate indoors, then going into an unheated room, then going outdoors, protected by plastic greenhouse/plastic upside down clear storage box.
Whens spring coming again????
