will the psb ever be ready?

hi jane,i am first time growing them also,mine are early psb,have about 15 plants,1 had some spears just before christmas,but they not supposed to until aprox march,how ever,we have been enjoing some leaves,treat as cabbage,also freeze leaves,and use the resulting crumbs in variouse things,it has a strong taste,i thought it a sacriledge to waste the greens,as they will only go yellow and dop of,thus wasted,well some of mine have any way,waste not,want not,

My PSB were all rabbitted last summer. But, my calebrese from last summer are still going!! Arcadia F1 (broccoli and chicken stir fry for supper).

They can produce shoots in April so it's not too late. Don't give up on them yet.

There's a variety called 'Rudolph' which makes spears very early (From Christmas, obviously, hence the name) If you plant a few of these and some later varieties then you can have PSB for a long season.

I would not expect to pick any of my PSB until late march or april and if this cold weather keep's on later still plus how have the pigeon's left your's alone....jacob

Th pigeons are having a few more bits each day which is why I want them ready soon! They have been having too much fun with the kale and chard...

I didn't net them cos they are in the flower beds. I will put them in a proper bed next year and net them all.

They look great, all tall and green, just want to start tasting them as never been a fan of shop bought one, and could never see what the fuss was about.

I did pick one shoot off one plant about a fortnight ago whch was ready, but that was not really enough for 4 people lol.

I may well have some leaves for the sunday roast though... yum.

My PSB are Rudolph...........no sign of them sprouting yet though.

Maybe Rudolph will be ready for Santa by Crimbo NEXT year! Lol

Well if mine aren't ready and I'm just a mere beginner and if Snadger's aren't ready and he's a guru of all things vegetable then I am still hopeful

My Rudolph ain't ready yet.
They all have buds on, ready to go, but are sulking in all this rain I think

My PSB aren't ready yet either, but then normal PSB isn't supposed to start cropping until Feb anyway and it hasn't half been cold!

But if Twosheds Rudolph aren't ready then I'm not expecting mine any day yet.

I also have purple sprouting Redhead going, so it will be interesting to see what crops when.

Emilymup has given me some Rudolph for next year, so I will be trying for the extended season using those and late PSB and maybe Redhead depending on when it crops this year.

I have just spotted that one of the biggest has been half shredded by the dratted pigeons presumably early this morning.

It's going to be tricky to net each one individually. I have about a dozen plants all in various places, front and back garden. I AM going to eat it after nurturing it for what feels like forever!
