I have never grown them before either, though I have ordered a packet of Bimbostar (yes really!) from Marshalls to have a go this year.

I got Cucumber Restina F1 and Cucumber Delikateb. The latter was 47p and the other 27p.
I checked the net and they are described as pickling land gherkin. Never grown before but at that price can't complain.

This is what it says on the packet:
            Restina
            Cultivation and Care:
Germination 6-15 days. Choose a warm habitat sheltered from the wind. Peas and sweet corn planted around the cucumbers are a good shelter from the wind. This variety is a F1 hybrid, provides secure and high yields even in rough habitats. It is the most robust and earliest outdoor cucumber. Ideally suited as gherkins pickled with seasoning or pepper.

            DelikateB
Is similar but they suggest that you plant a row of dill next to it to stimulate root formation. Very productive and resistant.

I grew some last year as well Lynda, cornichons over here. I still have some in a jar all pickled in my kitchen.
I have loads of seeds left, so will send you some when I get home.
I grew them outside on the compost heap from memory.

As Bob says, fairly easy to get hold of here, staple part of the diet it seems and all sorts of varieties.

With my cornichons I just picked em and chucked em in a jar of vinegar, along with a few pickling spices and some black peppercorns.
                        They taste goooooooooooood.

Did eggs a couple of years ago Lynda when I had chicks at home, then gherkins and onions when I had them at home too. So easy, even I didnt mess them up.
Get cracking, or get growing at least.
