I like your style - straight talkin' and telling it like it is.

My dwarf beans from two_sheds have their first flower.

My supposed dwarfs but clearly aren't...have no flowers but potentially a few buds.

My pot peas have a pea pod [yippee]. I'm taking a photo later today - it looks fab and I haven't the heart to chop it back and eat it.

Still having only 4 germinated - 2 of which are barely showing above the compost, I moved my French beans yesterday. I put the pot in my son's bedroom, by the window, hoping there'll be a little bit of heat from the radiator at night. I think they'll get some more sun there too.

My son is in France and will probably be away for the next few months, so it looks like his bedroom will come in handy between now and May.

No offence,Irie but if they understand what are you saying then I'd expect the germination to be around 0

You're assuming vegetable plants think like humans, actually many are masochistic.

I'd love to know how the French beans are doing - I've just got two plants about 3" inches high and leggy, just two true leaves on both, plus two more just barely showing in the compost. I'm hoping for better now that I've moved them to a warmer place.

It's about six weeks now since Piglet Willie's first post - what results do people have?

                Here's mine.

Supposed 'dwarf' on the left, peas in the middle and Two_Sheds' dwarfs on the right.

My one and only windowsill, taken.

Flowers on all 3, under the foliage.

Zazen, they look brilliant - to describe mine, I'd say that if they stood behind yours, you wouldn't see them.

                  Thanks for the pics.

Mine are 2 feet away from 5 live on weekdays and 6 music at the weekends. Perhaps that's a factor?

They got an organic tomato and chilli feed put into their saucers last week, and the amount of water they soak up every day is phenomenal.

ETA a photo - was doing the washing up and spotted the first beans.

                          So nearly there.....

                          For MaytreeF.

I've given them a seaweed feed [weak] in with their water and they are romping away.

Sure does but if they are not a dwarf variety give it another 2-3 weeks before planting otherwise they will get to big

Runner beans need bees to pollinate them, the French ones don't, so it wouldn't work with runners unless you could get them outside, which is why late April/May, depending where you are, will be soon enough for them.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Am salivating at your photo of beans!!! - you've got beans!!!

I gave them a feed last week and I think it helped - guess what, as soon as I finish here, I'm off to make up a seaweed feed.

Congratulations and please keep posting the photos, it's interesting to follow their progress - I just wish I could print them off and put them up near my little efforts to give them something to aim for!
