Bah! Potato Problems

At least yours have sprouted!

My problem is that I have promised the friends we are spending Xmas with that they will have potatoes from the garden! Blast!

Planted my Maris Peers three weeks ago and they are already up with lots of green leaves. Hope they are not going to bolt too fast. Got them outside too!

Would I be correct in asuming any First Early potatoe which has started sprouting could be used as a 'Late early' if you know what I mean?

My neighbour is a retired Farm Foreman (89 years old!) who says that Majestic was used early and late at the farm.
Think I might add it to my seed potatoe list for next year

Maris Peer is a maincrop potatoes that's grown as an imature early .....bit like me

nick i bought maris peer as xmas spuds are they ok for that .( i'll never get the hang of all this)

Yep fine for that. It was chosen as you could harvest it early before they tubers are fully mature thats why it's grown as an early but in reallity it's a maincrop like King edwards etc.

Just found some Jersey Royals (International Kidney?) in the garage with sprouts on!
I know its a bit late but I think I'll try them in pots and bring them in when frost is forecast!
Have heard they never taste the same as Jersey Royals because of Jerseys special soil and climate....but what the heck, I may as well try them!

I'd have to do a control pot to see if it made a difference though.

But Snadger the fresh seaweed will have the salt on it from the sea. That is one of the things that gives the 'Jersey' taste.
