Hi, i know this post is old.
Just wanted to say last year i saved some tomato seeds in much the same way as the link, except i just used the seeds not the whole fruit. i put the seeds in a shallow bowl with just enough water to cover, after 4 or 5 days my seeds started to sprout so i put them in a pot of compost on the kitchen window over winter. They are now nice strong plants waiting to go in the garden as soon as it's safe to do so.

I just wondered if anyone else had grown tomato's from sprouted seeds

It's a nice idea to start plants really early and keep them going indoors. My problem would be not enough natural light indoors and too cold out. Supplying heat and light would make them too costly in my book (not just £ but environment). There always used to be a strong contingent on The Vine who started their tomatoes on Boxing Day. There are also people here who will probably tell you it's not worth it as later sown plants do catch up.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

My son had got the seeds for me while in France and having lost the packet I had no idea what the name was. I was just trying to save the seeds to sow this year. As they had started to sprout I thought I would pot them up and see what happens, just put on window in kitchen no extra heat and just enough water to keep them going over winter lucky I did, I had no luck saving any seeds
