    When you consider the cost of new seed or multipurpose compost compared to the potential for delays, infection, failure to grow, other disasters and general disappointnents in re - using secondhand compost it's hardly worth it

    The old compost is not wasted, see previous comments, it's just used for things that are not so critical. There are lots of other ways to save money in gardening but getting seeds & cuttings & seedlings off to a good start is something you should do properly

      I just empty the bags and pots on the allotment, I reckon the plot will be above the water table sometime around 2030 (clay soil)

        I use as a mulch round the garden after sticking it in the darlek to overwinter with all the end of season annuals i clear.makes a good soil improver,but I couldn't work out where all the slime had come from,then I remembered the water gel YUK!
        don't be afraid to innovate and try new things
        remember.........only the dead fish go with the flow
