aubergines

can somebody please tell me what i should be doing with my aubergines? my very kind neighbour stripped some leaves for me at the beginning but i didn't really understand the process! Could some kind person tell me on the forum so i can see it in black and white and take it in (Old age is creeping up!)

I always treat them the same as Tomatoes Raine. so if you grow them OK do the same.

raine not trying to sound stupid, but what help do you need? as nick says treat them like toms (but I always try and keep them warmer).

Are they in a greenhouse or outside? This year outside grown have been excellent due to the hot spell.
Pinching out the side shoots encourages fruit on the main branches so like tomatoes( as Nick says) where a side branch gets another little one growing in the crook in between pinch that off to stop the plant putting it's energy into too many things rather than developing fruit. No need to strip leaves for ripening. They're not like tomatoes in that way. You can pick an Aubergine at any size and eat. Just like courgettes. However the bigger they get the creamier the flesh.

Dear sbp

The aforesaid kind neighbour stripped leaves off, also said something about the number of flowers i should have. I have lots of flowers and the bush looks really healthy nut nothing seems to fruit

many thanks for help- i seem to have a bit of a problem with pinching out, thinning etc as i always think i'm gonna kill them off but,courage in hand, off to the lottie tomorrow and fingers crossed!

Ah, but isn't it a bit late to expect to get anymore new fruit from your aubs?
