I started my garlic off from some sweet chinese garlic that I bought from the market greengrocers over 2 years ago and have been cultivating this each year.

According to the experts, this should be a fully acclimatised strain now for my location and soil type and I must admit it's got better each year.

I have over 200 plants happily growing at present. Enough to do plaits and jars of both minced garlic and garlic pearls in white wine vinegar, to supply family and friends for a year.

I have 12 cloves of ordinary sized garlic coming on strong and 5 elephant garlics in. That should be enough for my hubby and I over winter. If I had the space I'd grow fields of it. I love it too!

We grew about 75 cloves the first year, 100 the second year, and are growing about 125 this year! Tis much better than shop bought, better taste, and stores much better too! Fortunately we both love garlic!

I planted about90 in autumn but only half are growing but I have another 90 in pots waiting to go out in a couple of weeks time. Every time I go down the garden centre I am almost persuaded to buy another pack.

I've planted 2 bulbs of Solent White I got from Suttons, each had about 15 cloves. I would have loved to do more but don't have the space. I figure though that we probably get through a bulb every couple of weeks so fingers crossed this lot will be nearly enough to last us a year. One lot went in before Christmas and each is about 4 inches high now. I planted the second bulb just a few weks ago and they're already about 2 inches high.

I'm planning to grow some, but not in the veg. patch - I'm going to grow it around my apple trees and gooseberry bushes, because it's supposed to keep nasties away. Don't know how much - I love it, so probably a fair amount.

Am I too late to grow any? Fed up of buying stuff from the supermarket and as soon as I get to use it it's started sprouting! Unless my storage just isn't brilliant.

Got a couple of pots I could use for it.

No, not too late, you can get some for spring planting, but it needs to be in soon as it needs a period of cold to do well.

Ok, shall go and see what I can find tomorrow.

Sure I've read somewhere something about putting it in a freezer to get going?

Not sure about in the freezer - the fridge should be cold enough though. Got about 30 cloves in myself, and growing nicely, but reading this, I'm beginning to wish I had a few more! Love the garlic plaits pressie idea

                                That's a brilliant gnome Zazen.

I've put in 36 cloves thinking it was loads, but I should treble it next year after reading this!
