How much garlic are you growing?

Wow, I'm in awe of how much garlic you guys have all planted, i only put in 3 bulbs! Maybe i should go get some more Just a question about planting garlic as i'm a new allotmenter (and gardener for that matter) when it came to planting my garlic cloves i split up the bulbs into the cloves and put them in the ground green point up, should i have peeled off the skin or left it on? I really wasn't sure so did a mixture - unfortunately there were no other plot holders there to ask!

Love this site, currently subscribe to Gardeners World, was thinking of changing over to Kitchen Garden but going to buy a copy of Grown Your Own and see how that magazine compares

you leave the skins on as far as i know. not sure what would happen with the skins off

Mine are all in containers of various descriptions (I mixed horticultural sand with compost) I'm hoping to get them out June as I want to sow some carrots as a follow on. I need an early harvest of my 300+ onions as I need those beds too

I planted mine in some modules earier in the week as I wasn't sure which bed I was going to put them into. Will they be ok in the interim? I've left them outside in their trays in the trays to catch the frost.

Me too. I planted some more cloves this morning, around some of my apple trees, and now have about the equivalent of three bulbs in the ground. If it's a success, i may try more next year.

i have planted the equivelent of 12 bulbs of garlic. what i thought was a lot to cover losses like failures rotting and the really small cloves that i wasnt sure would be any good.Seems compaired to some i have hardlly planted any at all !. The ones in my pot outside my door are about 4 to 5 inches high, wheres the ones in the plot are only about an inch at most high!.1st year at growing garlic by the way.

I have 156 garlic growing in two raised beds on the allotment. I would actually like to grow more but haven't got any more spare beds.

Well here is my loverly garlic growing in the raised bed with quick cropping lettuce and radishes sown amongst it.

Planted roughly 40 cloves about February.All nicely growing,only about 3 didn't make it.

I have planted some garlic a few weeks ago- i just wanted to see how it would go but does anyone know roughly when they would be ready? i just planted 6 cloves and they are on my windowsill at home, growing well so far- not really compareable to what others have done on here

Get them out in the ground! They need a bit of cold for the bulb to split into cloves, we are told. Should be ready around July time - ish. (but you might end up with big bulbs of roasting garlic unless you are in the frozen north!)

thought it had to be a specific spring planting variety like Sultop

Well the garlic i planted was just what was left over from what was bought from asda - i thought i would plant it instead of throwing it out just to see if it would grow i'm pretty pleased to see it is growing well though!

I can't plant it in the ground (Can't do anything with the garden cause it's not ours) suppose i could stick it on patio area- or in the fridge overnight lol
