crimson flowered broad beans

Has anyone tried these?
They are supposed to be less prone to blackfly.
I'm going to put mine to chit today.
Will remember to plant them the right way up (see my other thread).

I'm trying them this year for the first time (thanks to a friendly grape!) and would be quite interested to know as well.

Planted mine a couple of weeks ago (started indoors but put out just as they broke the soil surface) and they're already up about two inches.

They are fabulous!

They grow to about 3' with lovely flowers, wonderful bright green beans (only 3 to a pod though) which keep their colour on cooking (none of those grey skinned jobbies here!), and yes, they didn't get blackfly to the same extent as my other broadies last year.

Definately a fan!

Wow, they look gorgeous! I have a few, thanks also to Two_Sheds - now I'm really looking forward to growing them! I'm going to pop them in this weekend, since it's a Fruit Week for us moon growers

I grew them last year and sent out a few packets of seeds through the seed swap. They were really healthy plants, didn't see a single blackfly on them. I haven't started mine yet this year, hopefully over the weekend.

To be honest, I haven't seen them advertised anywhere..........but there again, I've never looked! The will just be under Crimson flowered broad bean I would think?
Mine only grew about 2 foot high but were loaded with flowers and pods!

Deffo one for the ornamental kitchen garden!

Mine are about 3" high now (thanks to Flummery) and will be planted out sometime next week, only a few plants this year (16) so they're stopping at home so that I can keep the seed pure and save plenty for next year.

I must confess I didn't look very hard!

My Crimson Broadies where very prone to black fly last year & Chocolate Spot, i had to use an organic insecticide on them to bash the black fly, had a good crop of seed though and most of them went to Ryton Garden Organic Gardens during there seed swap.!

I love them too. Mine got blackfly but no-where near as much as the Sutton. Managed to squirt them all off with soapy water. Though they don't have many beans to the pod, they certainly have loads of pods. Mine came from Muckdiva, who doesn't pop in here so often now, but I've done my best to pass a few on!
