I have a huge collection of 2 litre 'pop' bottles that I want to use as bottle cloches, but do you leave the tops on or take them off?

I always used to take them off

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

I am new to vegetable gardening and to this forum, this is my first post :-)

Glad to read I am not alone in my wombling ways, every bit of packaging that passes through my life is assessed for its seedling growing potential. I have quite a collection and it is getting put to good use.

The only problem I can foresee is that I know I am getting worse and I dont want to be cured :-)

I've got containers made from polystyrene boxes, tubtrugs, old wheelbarrow, will be planting tatties in bags including the compost bags I'm currently using to pot seedings. Ang I stored a doggie plastic feed sack today for potatoes or maybe even carrots - I don't look like Uncle Bulgaria though and I am 5'10.5" with a little nose but I may dress like a womble at times

You should get them to meet my two boys - THEY were trying to persuade ME to go raiding the skip in their school playground! They're building a den & wanted the wood. They are worse scroungers than I am - they came home carrying an old school table between them once!

My neighbours are having an extension built so I'm in Womble heaven at the moment - have built another compo bin from all the unwanted pallets & have enough old planks to make another 12' X 4' raised bed.
Best Skip Find was probably an old bath, now doing sterling work as a water butt. The boys old wardrobe has been recycled into a tool chest, and I renovated a rusted-through wheelbarrow that I inherited with my plot, by painting it with blue Hammerite, repairing the floor & planting it up with strawberries. Likewise, two of the boys old plastic toy chests have also been recycled as strawberry tubs.
It's not 'collecting rubbish' - it's being resourceful & creative!
Many people have eaten in my kitchen & gone on to lead normal, healthy lives.

I cornered the water delivery man at work yesterday and asked if he had any broken bottles he wanted to get rid of. Got one 18 litre job already and he has promised to bring me more next week.

Also noticed a skip being delivered down the road this morning by a house thats having a new roof, should be good for some old slate and wood
