I think I heard it's anything upto 21 days, depending on conditions.
Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that, I'll be over
    here, looking through your stuff.

3 days or 3 weeks. Depends on variety and conditions. But they're quite reliable at appearing - in their own time. Be patient.

I "cheat" by germinating or chitting many seeds on damp paper towel in a plastic container - such as a margerine tub.

I put my peppers and 2 lots of Toms in tubs on Saturday and put them in the airing cupboard, I've got a few Brandywines and "Vine" Latah Tom that have chitted already to put into cells later. I'd expect the peppers to begin germinating in a couple of days.

                  I
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

Germination is closely related to constant temperature and humidity... If you like over-complicated charts there's one at
Temperature effect on vegetable seeds - percentage germination
If you prefer a simpler hit-and-miss approach most seeds germinate best around 25C (melons, aubergine, cucumber, okra slightly warmer, celery, parsley, onions, spinach and much debated parsnips slightly cooler). Either way it still amazes me every time it happens! b.
