Because garlic is planted UNDER the ground................ it will usually sort itself out even if it is upside down. (swan necked garlic anyone?

Or green end up as a famous vine guru was so oft fond of saying saying !
and you should be able to see where the base of the garlic was on the parent before you split the cloves away.........they go the same way up!
