Think I'll put off buying any for now until one of you guys reports any success, as you say JazzDuke they're pretty expensive. Keep me posted.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Oh dear!
I've been given some dowels and some "seed" for Christmas. Reading this thread is most depressing. The dowels are already sprouting and I have no source of recently cut down logs.
I'm not about to lop a large branch off the pear tree and it sounds like they are extremely picky.
Any suggestions about alternatives I could try. The "seed" is also going mouldy in the packet so I need to sort something for that soon too.
What a way to start the year.
BTW they are Enoki and Pink Oyster respectively.Bright Blessings

Oh dear indeed!
What a lovely idea as a gift though!
Why not try phoning a few local tree surgeons and see if they have any fresh hardwood? Or even the local council?
You could well be lucky as I believe now is a good time to lop trees before the sap rises.
With all this wind we are having, there must be some broken branches needing sorting out??
Are you storing the spores in the fridge? They will certainly last longer that way, and buy you time to phone round.
I checked on my logs a couple of weeks ago and they are still 'resting'.Last edited by Nicos; 08-01-2007, 03:31 PM."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Thanks Nicos I'll put them in the fridge and make some enquiries. The lottie officer may be my first port of call or at least that department. Come to think of it my neighbour's family may have some logs/bits not long cut/blown down.Bright Blessings
