In all the years I've been gardening I have never given much thought to companion planting. Probably because it has always taken me all my time to look after the veg without the added hassle of flowers. However I am going to have a bit of a go this year and am planting garlic in with the carrots. However I read an article recently that said that to have any effect with onions and carrots you would need four rows of onions for each row of carrots.

Thanks. Will digest it all when I have a moment.

I planted marigolds in the same pots my tomatoes and courgettes last year. The slugs loved them, but they were too busy munching the marigolds to get going on the baby courgette/tomato plants. I also planted basil, but that got munched as soon as it appeared. (The marigolds were bought as discounted bedding plants).
