  • Corolle potatoes

    Has anyone tried these?
It's a new one to me- but came up with max blight resistance - and most stars than any other spud on sale at the store.

I've googled- and apparently the Co-op sells/sold them.
Just wondered what the flavour is like.

I found this..on Google- poor keeping quality- and no good for frying...

Wow some coincidence. Got a bag today from the Reduced Bin in the Coop, 0.29p for 750g reduced from £1.59. Must admit the Reduced Bin is the only place I shop in the Coop, silly prices.
Intend boiling them unpeeled to have with pork chops (RB again), the packaging says "truly irresistible..... a buttery flavour and a smooth firm texture, exclusively grown for the Coop".
I'll report back on our findings after dinner.

OOO..yum!!!!...please to give me feedback ( I've plenty of Gaviscon if you need it!!!!!)

Says it doesn't store well if you GYO...just have to eat them first then!- won't be difficult if they are as yummy as they say!!

(Apparently they're very blight resistant too!)

Excellent flavour, a hint of sweetness and (I thought) a subtle nutty taste.
Nice texture, firm but soft, I know what I mean.
Visually a nice buttery colour and an interesting kidney shape.

If I had to be negative, the skins were a tad rubbery but this may be something to do with them being at the very end of their shelf life.

Certainly would buy again, if they are reasonably priced.

I have 3kg of seed potatoes- about 100 little uns...that should keep us going for a while.

Thanks for the feedback- I feel a bit happier about them now!

I never thought I'd find a second early that I would like more than Charlotte, but discovered Corolle (also in the Co-op reduced bin..…is there a theme here?) a few years ago and since then I've been growing them in increasing quantities each year, as one neighbour after another discovers how good they taste and books them for their weekly veg bags. Obviously potato flavour is a matter of taste and varies widely from soil to soil, but here in Wet Wales (Carms / Ceredigion border) they do brilliantly for me, both ptunnelled and outside. The flavour is consistently good - sweet, nutty, creamy, very 'new potato', with a beautifully firm texture. I find they also stand in the ground well and are useful as main crop roasters when they bulk up. The only trouble is, I'm still having to buy some of my seed spuds from the Co-op (I do save some of my own, but am a little concerned about running into disease issues in the long term) as they seem impossible to find through the normal seed suppliers. Does anyone know of a reputable source other than the Co-op veg counter?

There is a theme running through this.

Three years ago SWMBO arrived with a bag of spuds from the Co-Op reduced bin, yep Corolle. I enjoyed them that much I as her to pick up another bag which I purloined and grew.

Average crop and we both liked the taste, the only reason I don't grow them now is that I find LadyC better in containers.

If I remember correctly I couldn't find any seed potatoes but that may have changed now. At one time in this country they were grown exclusively for the Co-Op who introduced them in 2007 from ..........wait for it Nicos ................don't get all excited now....................France

Yep...that's exactly where I bought mine

To be honest, we never grew them again..yes, they were nice, but we much preferred to grow Charlotte .

Don't laugh, I brought a bag of these in a supermarket in Funchal last year, a spud that travels well

I ate some a few years ago from the Co-op in a Suffolk village where I was visiting. They were nice looking baby potatoes, but too soft and smooth for me. I've been corrupted by my years in Ireland which is the land of the floury spud. The Corolles I ate were the complete opposite of floury.
