Potatoes (again)

My Italian mothering law said that they use to cut the potatoes in half in Italy to get a bigger crop. Can this be the case if each half has a chit?

I'm pretty sure you can do that, especially with bigger seed potatoes.

YES........................but all my seed pots are tiny..i would only cut larger ones. Is Tattieman out there?

Too late I've planted all mine I have read that you can cut them though

Apparently in the US they send out just bits with the eyes to save on postage

Evening people. You can cut potatoes into as many pieces as you like as long as each section has an eye to grow from. I know people that peel their spuds, eat them and grow the peelings as they have eyes on them!!
Personally I wouldn't cut them.

Does the plant use the stored energy from the tuber to send out roots and shoots Tattieman? I assume that by cutting the potato, you will reduce the energy available? If you put potato peelings in your compost, there's a chance you will get plants growing from the 'eyes' on the peel, but the plants aren't always very sturdy (in my experience, which is limited )

You know me too well Tattieman....Mine go into roottrainers until they are big enough to go into the ground!
