I'm growing celery again this year, but have never been truly successful in the past. Now celeriac I have mastered. But we eat bucket loads of both, in soups, stews, celery with sloppy ripe French cheese....mmmm. So I really want to be successful with it and have taken advice from an old boy, who grows it in a trench and wraps newspaper and string around his even though it is self blanching. This way, no stringy stalks apparently. This year I'm copying him, every step of the way.

I tried last year in a container but I grew them too close together and they didnt really bulk up. They were good enough chopped up for the rabbits though. I'd tried tying a cut kitchen roll inner and placing that round the stems, loosely tied with string so it could expand, worked up to a point.

Going to try again this year, have got a self-blanching type from Real Seeds.

I grew it in flower buckets last year, but I put too many in one bucket. This year it'll be one plant, one bucket. They do take an awful lot of water.
