Asparagus Question

Hi all,

I bought some asparagus crowns delivered back in January planted them, well watered them at the time and covered them in a mini cloche during the really cold snap, still no sign of any growth from them.

When should I expect to see them poke their heads up above the ground?

Am getting impatient/worried. They where 1yr old crowns from Victoriana Nurseries so a good source.

Variety was Jersey Knight...

Mine show their heads in May...plenty of time ...different varieties probably grow at slightly different rates....It's been very cold...give them a few more weeks!!!!

Remember you mustn't pick any this year - and then only the odd one or two next year.....they'll be needed for the plant to get established!
Remember to stake the foliage when it grows- best to stake each end of the bed and run some twine between the two ends for the tall stems to rest on.

After that you'll be eating them every day!!!!! yum yum!!!!
