  • Moving plots - help!

I've been offered a full plot on the same allotment instead of my current half. Need to check it out but apparently it comes with greenhouse, shed and raised beds!!!

I've already planted quite a lot though, could anyone give me advice on moving the following? or whether it is movable? Without any prior experience I would try to take as much soil from around the plant as possible:

    Potatoes
    Broad beans (overwintered)
    Rhubarb
    Jersulamem artichokes & horseradish
elephant garlic (8 inches high now)
    Garlic.
    Spring planted onion sets

(of course an option is not to be a meanie and leave for the next folk!)
    Thank you kindly!!

Personally I'd take as much as I could on this as you've worked hard and now you have a whole plot to fill. However, don't take too much soil as that kind of belongs to the new tenant.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'd leave the broadies, dig up a few Jerusalem artichokes as they quickly reproduce anyway...but get the rest up and replant in your new plot.

Please tell me your horseradish is in a deep pot and not in the ground...

Could you keep holt of the half until the stuff you've planted is ready fot harvest ??

i'd ask the question and plant anything from now on on the new plot. Take the Rhubarb and Jersulamem artichokes & horseradish with you and rest should be out mid summer (ish).

What a shame they did'nt offer it you a month or two back, before you got it planted up.

I suppose it all depends if the full plot has been prepared or needs working before you can transfer your existing plants.

If its ready to go then like the others have said, I would transfer as much as you can, as soon as possible.

My thought was the same as Bob - could you keep the half plot until current crops are harvested and hand it over later in the year?

Thanks everyone. The JAs and the horseradish only went in a few weeks ago.. not in deep pots I admit (schoolboy error!). Should be able to rescue them and hopefully won't leave too many lurking "presents" for the next holder. The lady at the parish council is very efficient, she has someone lined up for my plot I'm sure. Planted wayyyy too many broadies to fill some space. If I can't keep hold of the plot till June hopefully the holder will be nice enought to keep them and share the harvest!

                Pictures from the offered plot

'scuse the bad photos, it's bucketing down at the moment so I took them quickly. It's a lovely plot!

I hope it's your photography and the greenhouse isn't doing an impression of the leaning tower of Pisa???

I was in a similar predicament a couple of years ago and I took the lot! Everything transplanted fine, including the bored beans!
