I use old tyres to grow my courgettes in - I throw the tyres onto the cultivated ground, plant the young courgette plant in the centre of tyre and the tyre walls offer it protection from any wind and the black rubber holds heat so the tyre acts as a personalised growth enhancer until the courgette is nice and strong - when it sends out it's tentacles, I lift these up on to the tyre wall and it keeps the slugs at bay.

I spotted an old tractor tyre on our new house plot. Not sure what I could do with it but I'd have to roll it up a big hill to get to our garden though.

Take a look at my albums - there's a photo there. As regards sowing your courgettes now - I don't know as you are so far south of me you might as well be in another continent ! I won't sow mine for a bit yet.

Did you know that a 195.45.17 tyre takes a large wheelbarrow of soil to fill?

I am using towers of tyres with sifted soil to try and grow some decent carrots this year.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

I've got 10 on the plot now, 4 are going to be used for strawberries (hopefully planted this weekend) and the others for various squashes.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
