  • Unequal potato foliage growth

    Hi All,
My indoor spuds are doing very well, but a couple of pots have one spud growing much faster than the other two. The only reason I haven't earthed up is because the other two spuds are slower. It's 3 spuds to a 40L pot and yes, I have little space in my house to walk, lol!

Will it harm them if I earth up fully, or should I choose a mid-height compromise? Or not earth up at all until the slower ones catch up a bit?

I had this last year, I worked out that it was because I'd put a bigger seed in with 2 smaller ones, so the big one was more vigorous! I just earthed up around the bigger one as best I could til the others caught up. It worked out in the end!

i just earthed mine up covering a few totaly by a couple of inches, they just popped back out a few days later,
Some people say they keep them under the soil to stop frost dammage to foliage so it cant hurt to totaly bury them ( dont blame me if you do and they die though! )

Thanks, Starloc. My outside ones got caught out when I forgot to cover them last week, so I might cover them with earth, too, as they're looking a bit sorry for themselves!
