  • Where to grow potatoes?

Where's your favourite place to grow potatoes?

I'm growing potatoes for the first time this year, but I don't really want to grow them in my raised beds if I can help it, as space in there is at a premium! Where do you grow your potatoes? Any tips on how I can save space with them?

    Thanks! =)

Hi I have some in buckets (from the pound shop) there are lots of threads on here if you do a search for potatoes in buckets or containers, giving good info.

I'm growing them in my flower bed; I didn't think we would have the money to fill a spare patch with flowers so we went with tatties

I generally grow some in my veg beds (main crop) but if space is at a premium (which it generally is with me!) then i put them in large pots (Morrison's flower buckets normally £1 for about 8) or similar and they tend to crop just as well but with smaller spuds.

A lot of us have been talking about growing them in empty compost bags. Just turn them inside out and roll the top down. Put holes in the bottom and fill with 6inches of soil. Stick in the tatties and cover with 2inches.

Dont water them for the 1st week to let the roots establish then as the plants grow keep earthing them up and rolling up the bag!

            Simples....

I grow mine in the ground. They are good for helping to clear a new patch of ground so if space in your existing beds is tight... there's always the lawn? [cue evil laughter]

(Last year I did some in buckets but without success as I am rubbish at remembering to water everything!)

I'm growing mine in 'clumps' this year! Trying to make my formal beds look a bit less formal!
Sowed two clumps today, one of 7 tubers in a parallelogram and one clump of ten in a triangle!
I think this randomness is starting to grow on me!
