Had my first tatties of the year........

Well I was cheating a bit as they were the leftovers from last year. I dug these up while preparing a strawberry bed! Still, very tasty they were, for supper, with butter on and a bit of ham!

Majestic was the tatty and majestic was the taste!

I've already had mine!
The dismal failure that was my Christmas potatoes. (Charlotte.) Emptied the bucket while I was tidying up last month and found a surprise handful in there that must have managed to grow before the greenhouse fell over and frost struck.

Though I did see a few miniscule ones in the compost heap. Maybe I should have eaten them. Next year maybe .

i had some i planted late last year in a bucket outside, i ate mine in febuary as i dug them up 3 days before we got all that really bad snow which was great saved a trip to the shops, had some spring onions too the onions where only good for soup though. the varieties where carlingford and pink fur apple salad potatoes all tasted good peeled boiled, in soup and roasted,

I had my first tatties of the year on Jan 1st lol.....they were in the greenhouse and sown for christmas,,,,,,,,,,,tasty tasty, tasty, just want to plant out these seed spuds but its raining/!!!

I've been eating my tub-grown spuds all through the winter. Still got some pink fur apples to dig out before I replant the tubs with this years crop.

omg...I'm being a bit daft...can you have salad potatoes in tubs over winter...or is it just main crops? I think pink fir are salad...hence my question...!

Pink fir are salad poatoes (as in good for eating in salads) but are maincrop in terms of how long they take to mature, thus giving salad spuds late in the season.

Lots of people also try and grow first or second earlies for Christmas, planting them in containers in late summer and bringing them under cover before autumn, to avoid frost damage.
