Same kinds of seeds?

I went out to the greenhouse yesterday morning before work to find lots of stuff germinating in pots and modules.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's what I sowed.
Went out again just now to check, and there are lots of seedlings with two tiny leaves, and some with elongated leaves, but I'm almost sure it's not what I put in there, except for the broad beans and peas.
Some of the compost I used was my own, sieved, some was an opened but unused bought bag from last year, and the same seedlings are growing in both kinds of compost.

That sounds a bit of a mystery! Did you use compost from a wormery to plant any of them, as when I did that I ended up with loads of 'bonus' seedlings, which caused slight confusion. If you are able to take a picture and post it on here I'm sure some knowledgable bod will be able to help you identify them (that won't be me ).

Let's just hope they're something edible, and not weeds!

I haven't got a wormery, I think I may just have got a batch of compost with a lot of seeds left in it, but I can't work out how they can be growing in both kinds, the bag was put in the greenhouse after everything was removed. I put potatoes in a bucket in there, but they didn't flower.
I'm mystified.
And a bit gutted.
Never mind, more sowing ahead!!

I'm not great at identifying seedlings, but my aubergines seedlings have elongated leaves - looks like one in each pot in the photograph at the moment.

You've most likely got weed seeds then. Blown on the wind into your home-made compost and into your opened bag of compost.

Solved the mystery...
Since I knew one at least was an aubergine seedling, i pulled the rest, and thought, hmm..smells familiar.
They're rocket seedlings. So if anyone wants a hundred odd rocket seedlings, here I am!!
A cautionary tale to using your own compost unless you know seeds will be killed in the process.
Doh!!


P.S. Thanks comfreyfan, until I knew what one kind were, i was reluctant to pull them just in case.

You can still use your own compost, but top it with a couple of inches of sterile (shop) compost

Dont look like aubergines to me..?..more like weed seeds like two sheds said...hope this helps..?
