Veg seed photoblasticism!

LOL, I've obviously been a-googling, new gardening word for today, what the heck is "photoblasticism" ? It's actually (evidently) the amount of light various seeds require or prefer in order to germinate - which was what I was trying to find out. But although dozens of sites inform me some seeds prefer light and some don't, I haven't yet found a site that tells me which is which.... Anyone know of one or a method of deciding? It's fairly common to prod seeds into life on damp kitchen paper but in the light or dark? b.

The smaller the seed the closer to the light is my general rule...celery sit on the surface whereas broadies are a thumb depth deep.

It quite often gives you a clue on the seed packets too - a common phrase is "Do not exclude light as this is required for germination" in the sowing instructions.
