  • Bone Meal fertilizer

I have just got my hands on some Bone Meal fertilizer that was on offer in Wilkinsons- £1.50 for 2.5kg.

Is this suitable for beds that I'm putting spuds and other general veg' in?

Bone Meal will be fine for spuds I dig the hole sprinkle bonemeal then a thin layer of soil then the spuds finished off with soil on top, The same thing can be done with courgs/marrows/etc plug plants . Using for tom/peppers plants I just sprinkle on the top of the soil.

Just a warning if you have pets they love it and may digup your veg looking for it lol

Before the introduction of growmore people only had BFB meal. It's a balanced fertiliser containing all of the major elements requird for growth. BFB has a mixture of quick release and slow release elements.

Bonemeal supplies mainly phosphates for root growth but does have a bit of slow release Nitrogen for leaf growth as well.

Bone meal is used mainly by itself when planting tree's and bushes to assist their roots to put out new growth, but will do no harm wherever it's applied as it's a 'safe' fertiliser which won't scorch roots or leaves!
