Free Standing Raised Bed

Hello All,

I am after a little advice on the best way on constructing a free standing raised bed. My intention is to have two large raised beds in the back garden as the ground is like a swamp and unsuitable for growing anything!

I am looking to have two beds approx 30 X 75 inches (door sizeish) and raised to knee/waist height to stop unwanted attention from young children & dog!

I should be able to source materials locally, but I am not sure how best to treat the wood and whether I should put plastic sheeting around the inside of the wood.

Finally, should I build a "floor" or leave it standing on concrete paving slabs?

Any help or tips would be great!

And not wanting much, I've tried to source material locally but I have no idea what materials are best to use...

Any further pointers or if you want to share your pearls of wisdom it would be much appreciated!!

Hi - not sure the best way to approach it as I've not made raised beds that size. The ones in my garden have 6" frames and the beds in my allotment are unframed. However, if you use the search function on here you should find a bunch of posts on here about such things as materials, lining, whether to put a bottom on and so on. (I wouldn't put a bottom on unless I thought I had contaminated soil underneath.)

Cheers that's really helpful.... I'm thinking bricks on my swampy land raised bt circa 2-3 ft would work.

Any thoughts, previous experiences would be greatly appreciated!
