I haven't watered my potatoes since they went in well over a month ago! I have a plant'em and leave'em philosophy with potatoes. Which might be why they aren't peeping above ground yet, but the ones chitting at home from the same batch are slow starters too.

I can't make out what the container is but it looks like it could be something recycled.
Did you drill drainage holes in the base? How many and how big?
Also on some containers there is a lip around the base that prevents water escaping if the container is on paving.
I sometimes add some holes in the sides of containers as well.
Also, I think chicken manure is alkaline and potatoes prefer acid - someone correct me if I am wrong please!!!!Last edited by teakdesk; 31-03-2009, 04:19 PM.The proof of the growing is in the eating.
Leave Rotten Fruit.
Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
Autant de ttes, autant d'avis!!!!!

I did say chicken manure, but I'm using westerland potato feeder, my mistake.
The pot does contain 3 seed potatoes.Last edited by TimH; 31-03-2009, 04:52 PM.

Here is a pic of the leaves I've cut off, as it's only my test batch. Black bits are compost.
Sorry for being over paranoid.
On another note I've upload a updated pic in my blog of my Garden Kitchen,
Thanks for all the input.

I have added another video on youtube of how to grow potatoes in potato planters if anyone needs any help. Don't laugh when I show you inside the bag and the potatoes roll down.

Especially if temps are low too ... spuds don't like to be cold & wet (well, do you?)
There's a trend on here at the moment to over-water things, it's not just you. People read that veggies need a lot of water, but that is later on when the plants are big and the weather is hot & dry.

HayleyB your better off not having added enough as you can always add more. I think a handful should be ok.
