I am going to try yellow french beans with my sweet corn and one butternut squash and see how i get on will let you know.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

I tried it last year (but did 2 sisters instead as I was a bit late planting the corn) and can't say that I'll do it again. We didn't get any squash (but the leaves did keep the weeds down - so not all bad!) but the sweetcorn was fab. Having the squash in there made it more difficult to shore up the corn but that may just be my incompetence rather than the method...plus the weather wasn't great here (loads of rain on clay soil).

I plant sweetcorn, courgettes, and french beans in my bed.The first year the french beans wrapped tightly around the corn so for the next 2years I put in canes at the side of the corn and the beans climbed up them. This method worked well as I got all the benifits of the 3 sister planting and my corn doesnt get strangled!

how far apart did you put the stakes from the corn?
and thanks to you all, I'll be trying pumpkin and borlotti and courgettes and climbing french beans, which has helped enormously with my sketchy planning on use of ground so far this year

Put the canes a couple of inches away from the corn and train the beans up them.
