  • Beetroot and onions

I sowed some over wintered onions last year and they are now starting to come along quite well. I hadnt realised but i seem to have planted them with really big spaces between them for some reason. I'm wondering if i can maybe plant some beetroot just now (Scotland) to take advantage of the space before the onions start to swell a bit more?

    many thanks

Beetroot aren't very fast growing...unless you just grow them to crop their leaves????

I'd be tempted to grow some radish, spring onions and lambs lettuce now and perhaps some leek between them ( later on)

couldn't you stick in a few more sets if the gaps are wide enough???

I agree with Nicos - most root veg (apart from radishes) are pretty slow, in my experience. Bung something leafy in there - lettuce or spinach or similar - that won't disturb the onions when you crop it.

thanks guys, will pop in some lettuce in a few weeks when it's a bit warmer and have some spinach in pots on the windowsill so will harden them off and pop them in too. Brill, many thanks
