I did it as well, though as usual, zazens are bigger than mine

Actually mine cost more than yours once you factor in diesel, I just conveniently ignored that

My SO's were in a unheated greenhouse over winter btw.

          LOL...

Mine were under a marjoram for most of the winter, outdoors.

Whilst I am on a roll...

These were sown on Feb 14th, into Jiffy 7s, planted out at the lottie on Mar 15th. Again, no idea of which type they are as they are a trial from a packet of Thompson and Morgan onion seeds for sprouting....they are now about 4 inches tall. Picture taken yesterday.

The ones I am harvesting now were sown last year.

They were sown and grown in an orange bucket, outdoors. Red beard is the variety, I think, certainly they are very purple as I harvest them now!

Just sown my next batch - well my next-but-one batch as I have some growing away in another orange bucket that I sowed there a few weeks ago - this time direct into the soil at the lottie.

I sowed some early last year and then we moved so they ended up staying in the seed tray for months. I eventually planted them out into a storage box but they didn't appear to be doing much, so I left them over the winter. Hubby pulled them up and ate them today. They were pathetic! A few of them were even as thin as grass. He said they didn't taste very oniony either.
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

                  Hello,

I planted mine way too close to each other (I think)....Is it ok to have such large clumps or should I be splitting them up?

yfs1, I've grown them much closer than that but it is not recommended.

I grew loads of them early in the season in a trough on the floor of my greenhouse with shading from the sun.

I thinned them as they grew so they ended up at a much better spacing and I probably gave them weak liquid feed ('cos I do that even when it is not advised ) but I did eat all the thinnings no matter how small!
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
                    Leave Rotten Fruit.
                    Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
                    Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!
Il n'est si méchant pot qui ne trouve son couvercle.

I'd stick to 5 or 6 in each clump....but they aren't ready to be put out yet - they need to be quite a bit bigger than that.

Thanks although they are now around 4" or more high so they seem to be drooping over due to the weight.

Can I transplant them to more pots (ie divide them up and put 5 to a small pot) to allow them to get bigger?

I wouldn't - they look too small. Are there any roots out the bottom of the modules?
