i really want a good crop of spuds this year, been trying for 3 and don't have much success, though the slugs and worms love them.
this year i've tried to get spuds that are slug resistant but was wondering if i need to feed them and if so what with.
we put manure and chicken poo pellets in the trench when planting, will this be enough or do they need a bit extra?

I just use general purpose fertiliser. I think the secret to a good crop is to make sure you chit the seeds properly (nice fat green shoots rather than long white straggly shoots) and give them a proper long growing season.

If underground slugs are destroying the crop then try nemaslug. No idea how well they work but worth a try.

I am going to try nemaslug this year but I have a little bit of slug bait down aswell.
Regarding fertilizer in my opinion the best stuff you can buy is the Vitax Q4 as stated above but this is very expensive to buy.I bought 25kg for £60 but it will last me for quite a few years as it is powerful stuff. I see that if you do a google search for Q4 that you can get pelleted stuff for £4 which is more like the job. If you are a serious exhibition grower that is the stuff to use.
I am not convinced about foliar feeds for potatoes either as you seem to get tremendous greenery on top and small potatoes.
Too much nitrogen is bad for growing potatoes.
Ideal sort of ratio is 1-1-1.5 of NPK. Q4 is 5-7-10 so it is pretty close to that ratio.
We use 13-13-21 in the fields.

I suppose if you don't mind going down the inorganic route, national growmore (7-7-7) is cheap and plentiful and not a kick in the bot from what is required?
Ok, it's slightly down on Potassium, but unless you've went to the extent of doing a soil analysis you won't know how much Potassium you have in your soil to start with!
