    I'm not that long in from my doorman job, just passing the time til dawn breaks them I'm off out to my field to harvest the following for my local Farmers Market;
    Lettuce, Chard, Spinach, Salad Leaf Mix, Rhubarb, PSB, Kale, Leeks.
    I'll also have locally grown onions, potatoes and carrots, as well as my own herb jellies, beetroot chutney and piccallili.

      You were the original inspiration for that film, "Bicentennial Man" with the nuclear powered robot, weren't you Rat ? Either that or you are just boasting...!
      For me today it was cabbage, mizuna, and chickweed.

        Trust me, I ain't all that - I'm absolutely wiped out - this time next month I'll be a shadow of my former self and have skin like leather, huge bags under my eyes, soil ingrained fingers, will be counting cabbages and cauliflower in my sleep, the OH won't be talking to me, the kids won't know who I am - but hey, I'll be happy as a pig in the proverbial !

              Wow, ok thanks, no wonder mine are a bit behind then

              And they germinated in the ground then did they? I'm sure it was too cold here then. I'll write it down and next year try earlier, thanks!

                I sowed mine in October (radish, winter gem lettuce)
                Other salads are from last year's crops left in the ground (baby beetroot & chard leaves, spring onions)

                    I have a bucket full in the garden - just taking what I want to eat as and when. I'll take a couple more today for lunch

                      When I first read comments at the beginning of the thread felt quite miffed that my salad leaves and radishes were way behind. Don't feel so bad now that I know they were grown under cloches etc. My radishes are in raised bed open to the elements and they've been in two weeks, have germinated and coming along. My salad leaves are under plastic and doing well.

                        And today I harvested *four* spring onions. Might have to leave them alone for a couple of weeks now, the rest are a bit wee...

                        Also today I had some PSB, perp spinach, parsley and sprout greens - for allotment pizza! How nice is it to watch a four year old wandering out into the garden with her pinny on to pick PSB and then wandering back into the kitchen to put it on top of her pizza? (Apparently I hadn't picked enough lol)

                                Rhubarb, salad leaves, watercress, radishes and chives. The last 4 were to go with bbq'd 'free range' venison steak served with garlic bread (frozen garlic from last year).
                                I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
