  • Great day planting spuds

Had a wonderful day with my family today as we planted our potatoes outside.
For those of you who don't know I have planted all my spuds in 17ltr polypots.
Today I dug a 4" deep trench then broke the soil up with a shovel and gently worked in some fertilizer.
Next step was take the spuds from the greenhouse and place them in their neat rows and heavily water them.
Whole job was completed in less than 2hrs and harvesting will be so easy.
I also planted 30 Welsh leeks that I got from Medwyn Williams.
Tattie and leek soup here I come.

I met Medwyn at a talk he did for our local NVS branch, nice bloke. He didn't give me any leeks, but I did get a free bag of Humax compost

Pressed submit instead of preview there
Medwyn is a great down to earth guy and full of useful information.
He is a bit down in the dumps with Liverpool losing the other night.

Is there a reason that you have 11 in a row there has got to be a simple answer but for the life of me i cannot see it .
Is a Scotish bakers dozen 1 less than a dozen where as down here it is 1 more....jacob

No reason I just put in how ever many fitted my rows to be honest.
Some people go 15 bags long but I will want to spray mine in the summer and can reach to the middle of those rows if there is 10-12 in a row.
I will also be putting a bit of fleece on so that was wide enough for the fleece.
I was really chuffed when they were all in.

Yes I will be putting a wind break up and I might put a large pea net over the top just to let the shaws get some good support.
