10 tomatoes, 14 chillies, I think 18 French beans (some HSL). And the plant fairs only start today.

No hates really, some things I don't grow here because I don't, tho with the space at chum's garden, may go for some different root veggies this year like turnips and swedes.

I need to buck up my ideas!
            4sorts of potatoes
            6x tomatoes
!0 x chillies, and salivating over my choice for next year!
            3 x basils
            3 x herb salad mixes
            and 3 x carrots.

But if I'm pushed! I was looking at greehouses this morning so I could grow more chillies!

And I'm with you all the way on kohlrabi!

Mine's definitely chillies, think I've got over 50 varieties on the go. I also like french beans, but have only got 4 varieties. I'll be taking over my Mum's garden with about 10 types of courgette, squash and pumkin, the boys are having a giant pumpkin competition so that'll be fun! I won't bother with aubergines again, each year I get beautiful flowers and nothing else. My round courgettes were rubbish both years I tried those so won't be doing them again. Mr J has informed me we're not doing PSB again as it takes up too much space (in all fairness garden is only 12ft square and we've got 2 small boys trying to run around in it), but it was great when we grew it before and our then 2 year old would go into the garden and eat it off the plant!

My obsession would have to be brassicas. I thought I was all organised and had cut down on the list this year, but then I found a wee pail full of all the seed packets I hadn't used last year... Still, in my defense, I only have about thirty odd varieties, and as an Aberdonian I was careful to buy seed that might last a few years !
Waste-of-space-plant - Taro (Coconut yam.) I'm growing it to see if it is possible at this latitude, but I know in advance that the soapy texture and taste is one of the reasons why there are so many food riots in the Third World.

Heritage peas and climbing french beans. I have around 50 varieties of each and grow around 10 varieties of each most years.

thanks, RedThorn, but i got space issues as it is for tomatoes (and everything else), without adding to them...!!! I love growing chillis but i think i have to wait until i have a proper greenhouse for them, which is why i'm not growing them this year.

                    thanks for the offer though!

I don't really have an obsession with one particular veggie, what i seem to like is things that are colours they shouldn't be, like tomatoes that are purple, spuds that are dark blue, beans that are black or bright yellow. Think it appeals to me that my plate could look like a paint pallette as i trained at art school or perhaps i am a little colour blind, or just bonkers!! lol.

Ha that's me too. I forgot to mention half my odd-coloured veg in my first post!

Also remembered that (counting the TPS varieties) I will have 8 varieties of potato growing this year. Is that normal?? 9 if you assume that the TPS King Eds will be different from the seed King Eds!

i just wish i had the room that some of you obviously have to grow so many different varieties. i have 3 different broad beans and 4 different peas, other than that it's just a couple of each.
kohl rabi is lovely raw, just like the core of a cabbage, i grow them but don't take them home, just peel them on the lottie and eat them there.

last year i grew lots of tomatoes, but i don't like tomatoes so wont bother with more than 4 plants in a grow bag this year.

I'm thinking of making tomatos my speciality. I love them, and eat tons of them, raw and cooked; they're frost-tender and heavy feeders, so difficult to present an interesting challenge; and they come in lots of different sizes, shapes, colours and colour-combinations. I'm only growing one variety this year - 'Amish Paste' - but it is my first year of fruit and veg. growing. next year I'll grow more - I want to try 'Tigerella', a stripy one, some other odd colours, and different sizes.

Why on earth grow something you don't like? That's why I'm not growing carrots.

StephenH, I don't like tomatoes either, at least not raw ones! And I'm growing 11 varieties, plus have another 14 or so that I've decided not to grow this year! Not so crazy really, I have a family of 5 to feed and I want enough preserved tomatoes to last me all winter. I managed to get to the end of February this year before I ran out
