at last I have leeks

So, after sitting like pencils all winter, my leeks have decided to grow. They are now a good size for eating, at last.

The variety is de Carentan (sp?) (Lidl).

I might have set them back, because they were attacked by maggots (leek moth) last summer and I cut all the leaves off to remove the maggots.

It's nice to be eating leeks in April though I don't dig up my leeks to eat, I cut them off an inch below the soil so they regrow for a 2nd crop.

This year I intend to cover the whole crop with netting, along with carrots & brassicas

Oh, I've sown some organic Carentan that came free with a magazine. My Early Market and Musselburgh sown at the same time are popping up, but no sign of these yet.

I've been scoffing leeks all winter but it's amasing what day length and a bit of heat can do to their growth at this time of year. They appear to have doubled in size this last couple of weeks and where'as before I needed half a dozen for a leek pudding I only need 4 now! Bit worried that they may start bolting before long though so leek pudding is on the menu quite regularlarily just now!
Never tried TS idea of cutting them off but do this regularily with brassicas for a second flush. Grew a bed of cabbage grown from expensive F1 seed last year and it made the initial cost worthwhile as it kept me in cabbage all season. I may try a square metre or two of leeks like this though to see what happens!

like you snadger, i got a second wind from my cabbages but will give the leeks a go with the next lot. is it a great success two sheds?

Yes, I'd say so. You get a 2nd crop for no effort.
