No sign of my rocket spuds

Early this year Wilkinsons had 3Kg of Rocket for £3. So I got a bag.

Chitted them nicely and mid to end of March popped 4 in a grow container. Three containers in all. Put the in my Greenhouse which has slight heating.
A few days later put rest in garden 2 rows each with 12 spuds in them and earthed them up as I normally do.

The grow containers have gone ballistic, the spuds are starting to flower.

However the ones in the garden have still not made an appearance.

All I can assume is that
1) Some one in Australia has some nice spud tops.
2) They are all dead. I could believe some died but not all 24.
3) They are all having a kip till it gets warmer.

Anyone know if they can take this long ?

I have just put the sprinkler on as it's not rained properly for a long while. Hope this tempts them up.

My Rockets haven't appeared either, they have only been in a week or so! - and they took AGES to chit.

I think its just been a bit cold and dry. With a bit of watering and the recent warm weather they will be off like.....rockets!

You haven't buried them too deep have you? I dug a trench about a foot deep, and simply covered them with a few inches of soil - so I'll just keep filling the trench up when the shoots finally appear. Not sure if this is the recommended way - but it seemed cunning to me!

One end of the row doesn't have much soil on it, so I guess it's a waiting game.
I don't really want to dig them up and check like a little child !

My potatoes in containers (outdoors) appeared much quicker than the ones in beds, of which only a couple have made an appearance yet. Sit on your hands a bit longer

Don't worry people the soil temp is still a bit cold for them to pop up but they will appear.
We have just started planting this week and it will take about 2 weeks before anything appears here.

Mine were planted mid-March took 29 days to start appearing. (Different varieties). last year they were planted mid-April and took longer!

i think it's just a heat thing
the ones in containers can sometimes retain more heat i think

I think I could just see one popping through last night.
But it may have been a weed.
Will see what develops.

i planted my rockets at the beginning of march, and they are just popping their heads up now

exact same scenario for me lynda, 1st couple of plants just starting to poke through, planted on the 4th of March.

i also planted some unknown variety that we got from the supermarket and found behind the vegetable basket into some tubs on the same day, they on the other hand are about a foot high and could do with getting earthed up

Planted mine first week in march (Rooster's) only just showing now took nearly 6-8 weeks planted at a depth of about 15cm, was worried last week, this week nearly all back.

I cannot forsee how potoatoes could rot or fail to grow unless they where in a constant pond (Remember they can be clamped underground).

Last year as an experiment I moved three of my tubs I grow my spuds in at home (Not on the plot) into the greenhouse, left them for 6 weeks, and unearthed them and they where fine on the christmas table

I suspect, it has been very dry. Where I am my culvert that had 2 foot of water last year through summer is bone dry currently... My lot was looks like a dust bowl unless I water it..

Hi, my tatas are planted in a veg basket and have started to pop through the soil- i'm really pleased, it's nice ot see them progressing isn't it

I should think it wouldn't be long until they make an appearance with the nice warm weather- they need plenty of water though, i'm currently watering mine eveny day with the dry weather and them being in a basket which drys out quite quickly.
