Beefsteak tomatoes

I am curious how you actually grow these. My aunt (in the USA) has sent me some Beefmaster Hybrid seeds. Having looked them up it seems they can reach between 1lb and 2lb each How on earth does the plant hold such weights? Do you have to help out and support them, if so how?

your avatar is positively scary...the plant will support the toms as long as you support the plant. I'm growing some brandywines which i hope will grow quite big and i'm going to use very large stakes and tie in like mad.

Biggest one I'm growing is the Marmande. Beefsteak sized with "ribs". About 8-10oz I think. Will see what happens.

I bought some beefsteak plugs from b&q. (6 for a pound!!!)

I wasn't looking for anything else for my GH as I have chillis, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and melons in it. But they were such a bargain.

I'll be making sure I support my vines as best I can.

I was reading on one american site that they suggest with beefsteak to pinch out the growing tip after 4 trusses have set rather than the 6 on normal toms.
