Celeriac growing:)

My celeriacs are about 4 inches tall and are growing like mad
I transplanted them a couple of weeks ago from the tray they were sown to into individual cells and it gave them a real kick.They are in the shed at the window so hardening them off as well.
If I'm lucky I'll enjoy plenty of celeriac coleslaw this year-I'll have 40 plants (half given away already)

Have you grown them before????

We now grow them every year after having several years of rubbish results...until someone said that you need to make sure they have LOADS of manure/compost in the soil..and water them LOADS.
Since we started doing that, we've have wonderful results!!!

I'm growing some. I've got hundreds of small seedlings in two seed trays - I sowed them a bit late, to replace my celery, most of which were destroyed when I accidentally knocked them off the windowsill. I saved 8 plants, which are now in the bed. I must remember to water and add compost, as per above advice. Apparantly, they also like an alkaline soil, like brassicas, so benefit from lime. Is that correct? I hope so, because I've already added the lime to the bed.

No idea about the lime..maybe that's why mine did so badly initially - cos my soil was exceptionally acidic...perhaps the compost altered the pH to a better level for them as well as feeding them?!!

I tried to grow them couple of years ago-no success.Then somebody said to me they had long growing season.After a consultation with SR I sown mine in February (first thing to sow along with chillies)and transplanted them into individual cells a couple of weeks ago.I'm still shocked all of them survived my rough handling...I checked on them last night,they look healthy and each has about 5 true leaves.
I haven't got any manure so will have to do without but will make sure they have plenty of water once I plant them into the ground

I sow my celeriac in February too in a seed tray. Then I put them into individual 3" pots shortly after they've germinated. I find if I put them in smaller pots or leave them in the seed tray they don't grow as big so quickly. The bigger the pot they're transplanted to the bigger the plant is when it comes to planting out at the end of May.
