I saw a friends container garden recently - she's gone a bit mad really, but then we do don't we.

Most of her containers were free flower buckets from Tescos - she just asked for them. I have some form Asda but I'd not seen the Tesco version before. Instead of the round bucket shaped things she has square solid black containers - quite deep enough for a lot of veg, maybe not maincrop potatoes but certainly most other things; and they had built in side handles - pretty useful looking I thought.

I might just nip down there myself to see if I can get some. Square boxes will fit in along my wall a lot better than the round ones and will be easier to water all along a row without wastage.

She had dozens of them - she said they were much easier than trying to grow in her new and rather wild garden, but I don't think she will be taking a holiday this year........

It isnt. litres is a measurement of volume and cm/inches is a measurement of size.

A wheel barrow will hold 60 litres.

I went nuts, I now have about 20 different containers (a mixture of pots, buckets, trugs, wash basins). I still have the big containers to fill but I am out of compost. Plus I still have a load of toms on the window sill along with cukes, courgetes and some beans.

And then there is the seeds. I got 4 collanders from the pound shop and I have salad in them now.

I am making a planter for some strawberries out of the top of my old chiminea (the bottom just fell apart). I made a new chiminea out of an old gas bottle using my crap welding skills.
