Hi All, I want to grow some swedes this year but have not got any room yet. Can you start them off in pots and transfer them to the ground later??

You can but it's a bit early to be sowing swede - I don't sow mine til mid may at the earliest - they are primarily a winter crop .Rat

It's one of my ambitions to grow a decent swede (Like the farmers seem to be able to do without any bother)
Last year I actually grew a few edible ones and the way I did it was by sowing in modules.
Where I went slightly awry last year was that each module had three plants in I and when planted out. This vastly diminished the size of the swedes harvested.
This year I have sown some in modules again but thinned them at an early stage to one plant per module.
They will be ready for planting out next week.
When I plant these out I shall also make a sowing direct as a backup.........just in case!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
